Position: Information Centre Specialist

Position Description:
IT MindFinders is conducting a search for an Information Centre Specialist (ICS) for our Vancouver based client. As a member of the Business Applications Group, this role will assist user groups in structuring and using a corporate data warehouse. Additionally the ICS will provide leadership and training in the use of associated Business Intelligence (BI) analysis tools within Microsoft Office.
Key Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Business Applications Manager, the ICS will work on ad hoc and one-time-use projects that the business requires in its analysis and planning processes

Develop a firm knowledge of application systems, data and data relationships.

Work closely with IT Management, Users, Database Administrators, Application Developers

Assist users in the design and development of BI processes to analyse business data.

Understand the limits of BI so that complex processes are referred to Applications Development.

Provide training for users in BI tools (e.g., Cognos) and advanced aspects of Microsoft Office.

Assist senior executives in the use of Workplace Technology.

Work with Applications Developers in the development of programs to meet advanced needs.

Work with the Database Administrator to define required data structures (databases, cubes, etc.)

Prepare user and technical documentation for BI processes created.

Thoroughly understand BI tools, associated utilities and Microsoft Office. Participate in the selection and analysis of new tools.

Seek and receive feedback from users and vendors, evaluate needs and respond accordingly.

Manage assigned projects. Plan project timelines, plan, assign and review project work, ensure project meets goals and objectives, and resolve project problems.
Must Have Skills & Experience:
-
Undergraduate degree in Business Administration with emphasis on business analysis.

Up to 2 years experience working with BI tools (Cognos, SAS, Information Builders, Crystal Reports, etc.)

Experience assisting in the development and delivery of training sessions on technical processes

Familiar with designing of data structures for use by applications and users.

Basic programming and database skills

Some Project Management experience - ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines

Very strong English communication skills (oral, presentational, and written)

Use of SQL queries
-
Ability to work evenings and weekends on an as needed basis

Occasional travel may be required.
