Position:Director, Information Technology

Position Description:

 

IT MindFinders is conducting a search for the consummate Technology professional to lead, develop and grow a team of highly skilled, technical/professional staff in the operation of a 24x7x365 North American data operation.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, the IS Director will participate as an integral member of the management team in dynamic and highly secure environment. The Director will be responsible for forming the vision and developing the strategy of the corporate platform.

The Director, IS works collaboratively with the senior management team on issues that affect the Department.  These include, but are not limited to, strategic direction, financial planning and resource allocation, departmental policies and procedures, staff development, information systems, evaluation of existing facilities and services, growth opportunities and the evaluation, rationalization, and provision of new infrastructure.

This role has been created for a disciplined, motivated, creative and well-organized individual with at least ten years experience managing both an environment of technical infrastructure as well as leading, developing, motivating and supporting highly skilled technical resources.


Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership and consultation for best practices of a 24x7x365 data operation running mission critical application and systems

  • Research, develop, implement and maintain departmental information systems

  • Provide leadership to staff creating and maintaining positive working relationships by establishing a clear set of reasonable and mutually agreed upon expectations, effectively measuring and evaluating performance, and providing feedback with the objective being employee growth and improved performance at all levels of responsibility

  • Consult with and advise organization management on the current state of systems and technology, and recommends modification, changes and/or additions to assure state-of-the-art information systems, information technology, and communications technology.

  • Plans, organizes, staffs, directs and controls the activities of the Systems and Technology function and directs staff members in the development of policies, procedures, and documentation of applications for an effective and productive work environment

  • Ensures appropriate systems are in place for organization security and systems protection.

  • Plans and administers the annual operating budget and business plans, managing the Systems and Technology function within these parameters.

  • Oversee vendor selection and vendor management

  • Manage on-call periodically and work after hours/weekends as necessary

  • in conjunction with the senior management team

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science

  • Minimum 10-12 years of progressively responsible and diverse Systems and Technology management experience including including systems analysis and network hardware management in a Linux/Unix environment

  • Working knowledge of a secure 24/7 operations centre. Knowledgeable with online security and disaster planning

  • Well-versed in the development of policies and procedures related to operations and security

  • Minimum 3 – 5 years managing a highly functioning technical team and strong evidence of the ability to achieve results through others

  • Proven leadership capabilities, including interpersonal skills, problem solving skills and reasoning/analytical skills

  • Strong project manager with the ability to manage several projects at one time.

  • Highly organized with strong knowledge of change management, financing, action planning and strategic planning

  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills
