Position: Vice-President, Software (Product) Development

Location: Vancouver, BC

 

IT MindFinders is conducting a search for a Vice President, Software Development. Reporting into the CTO, this position is responsible for leading a team of Manager/Directors that manage up to 90 technical resources – both on and off shore. Additionally, the VP SW Dev sets the strategic technical directions and reviews and provides guidance for all technical aspects the company’s various software products.

  1. Have you a minimum of eight years experience, within a software organization building, coaching, mentoring and developing a senior level technical development team in bothleadership and technical decision making?
  2. Are you well versed in building and nurturing a high performance team for maximum engagement and productivity using performance improvement feedback, annual performance reviews, mentorship, professional development, team building, rigorous hiring practices, quick and judicious disciplinary action and terminations as necessary?
  3. Are you accomplished at leading a team during a period of rapid growth in a fast paced, entrepreneurial company? Do you understand what it is like to do “more with less”.
  4. Do you have a demonstrated history of effective analysis and risk evaluation to create new solutions for complex business problems? Do you proactively research industry trends and competitive products to provide recommendations that ensure the company is leading the market?
  5. Does your background experience and resume provide evidence of exceptional problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills?
  6. Have you developed, established, negotiated and maintained relationships with outside organizations including customers, suppliers, partners, employees, industry, community and others?
  7. Have you defined and maintained onshore and offshore development and QA contracts?
  8. Have you built effective and successful relationships and worked collaboratively with internal company PMO, Sales, Channel, and Marketing departments?
  9. Do you enjoy public speaking at technical summits and media events?
  10. Have you conducted due diligence and/or participated in the evaluation of corporate technology acquisitions?

RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  • Direct and guide development teams through key tech decisions
  • Define and maintain onshore and offshore contracts
  • Participate in the evaluation of technology acquisitions
  • Establish and maintain accountability for teams and projects
  • Participate in selection of senior technical staff
  • Participate in formal and informal reviews with each team
  • Liaise with the Sales, Channel, and Marketing departments
  • Supervise the liaising to the Program Management Office
  • Establish and maintain first-party, vendor and partner relationships
  • Represent thecompany at various technical summits and media events
  • Provide mentorship to junior members of staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum B.Sc. in Computer Science
  • Minimum 8+ years experience leading a technical development team with at least 5 years in a purely management capacity
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple OS architectures including Windows, Mac, and Linux
  • Demonstrated history of effective analysis and risk evaluation
  • Exceptional problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Exceptional integrity, ethics and credibility with an authentic and persuasive communication style.
  • Collaborates transparently to deepen accountability, to provide product vision and direction, to solve customer needs and to exceed company goals.
  • Facilitates the setting and enforcing of technical budgets
  • Actively builds collaborative and respectful relationships and works through conflict constructively
  • Contributes to and supports team goals and shows dedication and passion for the work, the team and the organization
  • Organizes and plans work, and sets commitments that balance importance and urgency
  • Provides leadership and guidance in order to take departmental talent to the next level while increasing employee engagement and effectiveness.
