IT MindFinders is conducting a search for a Senior User Experience Engineer on behalf of our client located in Vancouver, BC.  Reporting to the VP Engineering, the Senior UE Engineer will be a key, senior member of our client's product development team and will work closely with Product Management and Development.  Assignment of tasks will be collaborative and vary between Project Directors and assignments will be focussed around developing features and extensions to our client's server and major portions of the product portfolio.  The Senior UE Engineer will be active in owning the user interface definition, crafting prototypes and mockups, and working with Product Management and Development to realize user interfaces in a variety of settings that are consistent with our client's goal of having high quality user experience for a variety of user personas.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead in defining and clarifying user interface requirements and in being the user advocate.
• Lead in solid UI design/implementation including storyboarding, think out loud sessions, mockups, usability studies, and contextual inquiries.  Work may be directed to user interaction in administration of server, interaction via some mobile solution, or in a setting that is targeted to the end-user experience in accessing enterprise and SaaS enterprises.
• Participate in UI construction as needed including work on Java UI frameworks, HTML and CSS work.
• Active in supporting SQE team members in questions relating to expected functionality and usage.  
• Subject matter expert for best practices in user-centered design including simplicity and straightforward, non-cluttered designs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 8+ years experience in user interface development.
• Demonstrated experience in developing user interfaces for commercial, enterprise level, products.
• Working knowledge of mobile platforms as iOS and Android.
• Must have experience with open source and open source tools.
• Must have working knowledge of Java space and practices in development.
• Must have product experience with at least one Java UI framework.
• Experience with identity management systems an asset.
• Knowledge of HTML5 and on-going work with this new standard.
• Experience with SAML, OpenID, and similar protocols used in trust settings.
• Experience in an agile, iterative, or XP environments an asset.
• Exceptional problem solving skills.  Loves finding the best solution.
• Strong interpersonal communications skills including the ability to communicate a multiple levels in organization and to convey designs.
• Visual person that takes joy and has high skills in sharing information and insights.
• Comfortable working within a lightweight process environment.
• Capable of high performance in a two-week iteration cadence.
• Self-motivated and works with minimal direction.
• Takes ownership of user experience.
• Ideal candidate must be able to learn quickly and independently and be capable of gathering information and understanding complex features/environments.
