Position:  Development Manager

IT MindFinders is conducting a search for a Development Manager on behalf of our client located in Vancouver, BC. Under the general direction of the Senior VP, Information Technology, the Development Manager is accountable for the successful development, implementation, delivery, support and maintenance of application software within our client's Canadian operations. This is a "hands-on" management position that requires management of a small development team and projects, but also has an on-going role in the development of business requirements, application development and quality assurance testing.

The Development Manager will:

- manage the overall development and maintenance of the corporate application and data architecture, data integration, and database administration and quality assurance functions
- provide general directions, leadership and consultative support to the development team, business analysts, as well as, project managers and consultants
- meet on a regular basis with major clients and department heads to explore new opportunities and requirements
- contribute to IT strategic planning as facilitated by the Senior VP, IT, as well as the IT tactical (operational) plan for the IT Operations group, as facilitated by the Manager, Technology Operations
- contribute to the development of capacity plans, with specific emphasis as they pertain to application software and databases
- develop plans for the installation of security systems for software and backup and recovery
- contribute to the development of plans for the installation of security systems for databases, disaster recovery and storage systems
- participate in and approve business analysis, upgrades, enhancements and debugging efforts as they relate to application software maintenance
- review and approve the development of software developed in-house
- manage application development projects and IT initiatives including development of plans and budgets, the assignment and management of development resources and providing status reports to management
- establish and manage outsourcing contracts and consulting projects
- assist client departments to review and recommend the purchase of packaged (3rd party) application software, and produce and/or contribute to the development of plans for the installation of packaged (3rd party) application software.

The ideal candidate will possess:

- 6-10 years experience in Information Technology with a minimum of 2 years experience working in a lead or supervisory capacity
- minimum of an undergraduate degree or technical college diploma in a related area is preferable, or commensurate qualifications and/or experience
- experience in the financial services or brokerage industry is preferable
- familiarity with SQL, C++ and Java, as well as various other technologies such as ASP, HTML, XML, Web Services and .Net
- comprehension of database technologies such as SQL Server
- a foundation in data administration and modeling methodologies, as well as experience working with development methodologies
- experience with budgeting
- exceptional customer service skills complimented by excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- strong project management skills in addition to good planning and organizational capabilities
- experience with quality assurance techniques and practices
- sound understanding of application design and architecture, as well as technology in client/server and Web environments
- ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate leadership in professional and friendly manner.
