Position: Network Security Engineer
Type: Permanent
Location: Vancouver, BC
Position Description:
IT MindFinders is conducting a search for a Network Security Engineer on behalf of our client located in downtown Vancouver.
Reporting to the Chief Security Officer under the direction of the Manager, Technology Operations, the Network Security Engineer is accountable for the design, configuration, development, integration and maintenance of the NT, Windows and network infrastructure.
Responsibililites:
- Participate in Incident Response and Forensics Activities.
- Proactively analyze threat status of the enterprise and responds to suspicious activities.
- Evaluate threats to the environment as derived from subscription -based services, environmental discoveries and daily information received from vulnerability monitoring tools.
- Address issues identified within the organization and respond to these problems through interaction with the corporate ticketing systems.
- Provide information security consulting services to the organization including IT and Business units.
- Create documentation, participate in meetings and conduct testing activities
- Lead large scale Information Security product evaluations and participate in projects led by other business units or IT areas.
- Implement security protective measures at the network, platform and application layer.
- Architect data repositories and systems to generate security reports and metrics.
- Coordinates and manages security patching and other network vulnerability responsibilities across the organization.
- provides critical support, as required, on a 24 hours x 7 days / week basis.
- Liaises with customers and vendors.
- Prepares, or contributes to the preparation of standards and policies as they relate to hardware and software.
- Provides necessary training and instructions to Help Desk staff.
- Prepares capacity plans for security systems.
- Assists business units in technology planning as related to security.
- Prepares, or contributes to the preparation of plans and installations for servers, databases and applications.
- Evaluates current and emerging technologies and introduces technical solutions that address security issues.
- Contributes to the planning of security systems for software, network, storage systems, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery.
- Contributes to the IT operational plans and budgets for Technology Operations, as facilitated by the Manager, Technology Operations.
- Contributes to the annual project planning requirements by providing estimates and plans for project estimating purposes.
- Participates as team member on projects involving security applications and infrastructure.
- Contributes to the development and assignment of project budgets.
- Contributes to systems development project plans by determining security.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree in computer science or commensurate qualifications and / or experience. An MCSE would be a definite asset.
- 3 - 5 years in Information Technology with expertise in software and hardware, networking and computer operations.
- Must be able to travel to the US 2 times per calendar year.
- Experience in the financial services or brokerage industry is preferable.
- 3 + years of security threat vulnerability experience
- 3 + years of network engineering experience
- 3 + years of scripting PERL knowledge
- Prior military experience a plus
- Strong project management skills;
- Excellent planning abilities;
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
- Extensive experience with Information Technology techniques and methodologies;
- Extensive experience with technology in a client / server environment;
- Familiarity with change management;
- Comprehension of organizational dynamics.
Technical Requirements:
- Expert level technical knowledge in Server and Desktop Operating Systems: Windows and UNIX required
- Prefer high level of expertise with common line of business middleware applications such as Exchange, SQL, IIS, SharePoint and BizTalk - Oracle, Apache and Websphere.
- Active Directory experience
- Desktop applications: MS Office suite required
- Programming or scripting experience helpful
- In depth understanding of troubleshooting applications/OSes and systems with many interdependencies.
- Senior level knowledge in the application platform area, with security background in other areas such as networking or identity management being a plus.
- Advanced experience with information security tools such as vulnerability scanners.
- Forensic and electronic evidence collection skills is a plus.
- Expert level understanding of networking protocols and principles involving TCP/IP and the OSI model.
- Expert level knowledge of file systems, networking architectures and protocols.
- Expert level Network hardware including wireless, routers, firewalls, modems and hubs.
- Expert knowledge of Cisco IOS for routers and switches.
- Expert level understanding of the Internet and networking.
- Expert in Security investigations and electronic forensic analysis.
- Expert in Systems and network auditing and monitoring experience.
- Experience with VPN implementations (IPSec and SSl) using NetScreen, Cisco or Check Point devices preferred.
- Experience with Monitoring and administration of IDS and/or IPS implementations preferred (Sourcefire and SNORT).
- Experience with Enterprise/Carrier-class firewall platforms; Juniper Netscreen, Cisco PIX/ASA or Check Point preferred.
- Experience with Network Security assessment tools (Qualys, Nessus, nmap, netcat, nbtscan, Wireshark, Snort, metasploit, etc.)
- Sound understanding of the Security concepts behind the AAA (authentication, authorization, and auditing) framework.
- Experience with SIEM (Security Information and Event Monitoring) Systems - Implementing or using (RSA Envision Preferred).
