IT MindFinders is conducting a search for a Senior Oracle Database Administrator to join one of our brightest and most talented clients. Located in beautiful downtown Vancouver, this exciting opportunity is central to all forms of public transport.

Our client is well known and respected service provider of excellent quality, 24/7 secure financial solutions. Due to company growth and expansion, they are increasing the size of their infrastructure group and looking for a talented team player with solid DBA experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Within an existing data storage infrastructure, develops, implements  and maintains database DR processes and procedures

• Designs and develops new features and functionality

• Develops, implements and maintains effective backup strategies

• Help to manage and maintain the data storage infrastructure to ensure 24/7 operations

• Assists the development team in building effective data models, optimizing SQL queries, and developing store procedures

• Assists in the development, documentation and maintenance a variety of different software systems for both external and internal customers

• Analyzes functional requirements and contributes to functional and logical design of projects

• Reviews peers' work for security and optimization shortcomings

• Investigates and troubleshoots complex production issues

• Manages issues in a defect management system

• Coordinates with various teams and external contacts to ensure project deadlines are met

• Participates in projects as required

MUST HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum six years experience in a directly related position

• Degree/Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology

• Extensive experience managing mission critical 24x7 Oracle databases

• Expert in designing and implementing DR scenarios for Oracle 9i, 10g RAC environments

• Expert in building and managing hot stand-by and active-active Oracle environments

• Expert in building backup and restore strategies  

• Strong knowledge of SAN and iSCSI technologies

• Advanced knowledge of Oracle design, optimization, tuning and processes

• Excellent data modeling and SQL query tuning abilities

• Excellent trouble-shooting skills

• Strong scripting shell skills

• Experience working in a live production environment

• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills – an expert communicator and able to discuss issues with the team as well as skilled at  communicating decisions to stakeholders

• Available for participation in an on-call schedule

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS

• Solid understanding of object/persistence frameworks

• Experience managing MySQL databases

• Oracle certification would be an asset
