IT MindFinders is conducting a search for a Java/Web Developer for one of our downtown Vancouver based clients.

The Java/Web Developer will be supporting and automating business processes in an established and growing company. Quality, maintainability, security, and testability are of utmost importance.

The Java/Web Developer will be responsible for both maintenance of existing systems as well as designing, architecting, and  developing new features and functionality.

The ideal candidate will have strong communications skills enabling them to discuss issues amongst the team, come up with solutions and communicate decisions to stakeholders. Being an expert communicator, the candidate is comfortable refining requirements in addition to generating documentation for internal and external use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, documentation and maintenance a variety of different web-based software systems for both external and internal customers
  • Design and implement web-based user interfaces using J2ee, spring, and assorted standard libraries
  • Review peers' work for security and optimization shortcomings
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues, manage issues in a defect management system
  • Coordinate with various teams and external contacts to ensure project deadlines are met

Must Have Skills

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years developing web applications in Java and interfacing with web services
  • Enjoy user interface design and implementation
  • Fluent with object-oriented design patterns and current software development methodologies

Nice to Have Skills

  • Experience with: tenets of user interface design; dynamic web content (HTML/DHTML, CSS, Javascript), SSL, object-relational data mapping, revision control, Salesforce, modern software development methodologies, resolving browser/platform constraints
  • Understanding of how malicious attacks on web applications work and how to prevent them
  • Experience adhering to open web standards and guidelines, interacting with various database systems, and creating and maintaining web services.
